The frost is beginning to turn here in freezing Mongolia meaning it’s time for another edition of Simply the Best. The month of October saw the end of Vegas Knockout: The Winner’s Bracket of Where to Stay in Vegas and the completion of the Pho Sho: Top 10 Pho Worldwide. At the same time, the pulse section, my commentary on all global news saw a spike in readership.
But, instead of listing every great post, I, like always, have limited this list to the top 7 for the month of October:
1. PHO SHO, FU UH SHO: THE TOP TEN PLACES TO GET PHO!
Phở or pho (pronounced variously as /fʌ/, /fə/, /fər/, or /foʊ/ so please stop messaging me that it’s not pronounced pho! I get it, we all get it but choose to remain ignorant for the sake of levity.
2. ALL IN BUSINESS, ALL FOR $200 AND 30,000 US AIR MILES
In the end, my itinerary reads:
PVG-KIX (4 nights)
KIX-PEK (1 night)
PEK-ULN (till frozen)
All in business, all for $200 and 30,000 US Air Miles.
3. VEGAS KNOCKOUT: ALL HAIL CAESAR’S PALACE
Caesar’s won out because unlike newcomers (see Cosmopolitan post), Caesar’s has proven time and time again it can withstand the test of time by adapting with the times.
4. VEGAS KNOCKOUT: WHAT THE $20 TRICK GETS YOU AT THE FOUR SEASONS
“In my hotels, there is always somebody watching,” went through my head as I fumbled for the prescribed ingredients to pull off this epic maneuver.
5. I’M IN MANUFACTURING, SPENDING
The best feeling in the world comes from churning. i.e., applying for multiple credit cards at once to get the sign up bonus.
6. MANY THANKS FOR BEING CALLED ‘STRANGE AS HELL’
His substantially self-depricating semi-autobiography about evading the corporate grind, and appreciating what life has to offer is genuinely entertaining. I would strongly encourage everyone to get a copy of the book and use it to get a few laughs… and maybe even to help affirm aspirations of taking a new path in life. For Michiganders, wolverines, and anyone stuck in a Lumbergh-style work-environment… the book is straight up killer.
7. THE OCCUPY IDEOLOGY: A MOVEMENT GOING NOWHERE
Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Turkey, Occupy Everywhere are all grounded in the hopes that the people’s voice will be heard leading to a reduction of social and economic inequality. Unfortunately, all these movements start and end the same way.
